The late Datu Er. Prof. Dr. Ang Thian Hin, a Singaporean, started his career as a civil/ structural engineering apprentice. Determined to improve himself, he attended a 5 year part-time course at Singapore Polytechnic whilst working full-time for local architectural practice ATS&P. After graduating with a Technician Civil Engineering Diploma, he gained direct admission into the second year of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering programme at the Central London Polytechnic, UK (now known as University of East London) and obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. His quest for knowledge spurred him on to complete a Master’s Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering at Sheffield University, UK. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Philosophy in Impact Engineering at Sheffield University, UK.
He passed the professional examination of the Institution of Structural Engineers, UK and was duly registered as a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, UK; a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK; Chartered Structural Engineer, UK; Chartered Civil Engineer, UK; Chartered Professional Engineer, Australia; European Engineer of the Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI), Europe; a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia and a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia; a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore and a Member of the British Institute of Management (now known as Chartered Managerial Institute), UK. He passed the Professional Engineers Board of Singapore examination and was registered as a Professional Civil and Structural Engineer. He was conferred as Honorary Professor by several universities in PR China. He was one of the select ATS&P Scholars who had succeeded in achieving his GCE “A” level, technician diploma, bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctorate degree and professional qualifications.
He was instrumental in setting up the Advanced Technologies and Solutions (ATS) Group of Companies which includes ATS ComputerCentre, ATS SoftwareCentre, ATS ComputerSchool and ATS Information Technology Institute for Research and Development of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software for professional practice, research and development, and teaching and training. These CAD, CAE and CAM software clinched numerous prestigious awards and also impressive pioneer status awards for CAD / CAE / CAM software development from the Singapore and Philippine governments. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of HRC Micro Organisation of UK and incorporated ATS Technologies Ltd in Sheffield, UK for the research and development of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software called ATS Supervisions.
He initiated the donation of ATSStructE and ATS Supervisions to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; National University of Singapore, Singapore Polytechnic and Institution of Engineers Singapore, more than 80 universities in the Philippines, 33 universities in the People’s Republic of China, 5 universities in Malaysia, a university in the USA and several colleges in UK for CAD / CAE / CAM education and training.
He was inspired by the mentoring of his older brother Dr. Ang Thian Soo, and by the generosity of the scholarship programmes he benefited from. The wide breadth of his local and international education and experience helped him in the setting up of the Royal Institute of Higher Education, with the aim of sharing his skills and knowledge to provide special counselling, assistance and career guidance to students from developing countries, especially to those wishing to explore affordable higher education and employment, business and networking opportunities worldwide. The Royal Institute of Higher Education has helped thousands of students to gain their bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in Singapore, Malaysia, UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Europe and the Philippines.
He conceptualised Royal Institution of Singapore as the pre-eminent professional membership and accrediting institution for people who deserve to be recognised and respected globally.
FDr. Dr. Ang, a Singaporean, is a well-respected international multi-disciplinary professional acknowledged a true innovator and pioneer. He is a UK Chartered Architect, Chartered Building/ Civil / Structural / Public Health and Hospital Enginaeer and a Chartered Environmentalist and Builder. He is both an Architect and Civil Structural Engineer in Singapore Institute of Architects as a Pioneer Archtect for hid invaluable contributions to the architectural fraternity and built environment of Singapore who serves as a role model for future generations of architects.
He is a modest philantropist known for providing numerous CAD/CAE skills training scholarships to financially challenged students. He is also a donor of significant educational grants and donations to professional organizations and numerous educational institution in the Philippines, China, Malaysia, SIngapore, Papua, New Guinea, USA and UK.
Over a lifetime of achievement and services, he has been lauded by numerous distinguished academis and professional institutions and organizations across the globe and has been conferred with 22 Fellowships, 51 Honorary Fellowships, 20 Honorary Professionalships and 6 Honorary Doctorates in multiple disciplenes. He has been appointed an Ambassador of Godwill of many universities, Honorary Consultant and Adviser of multiple academic and professional institutions and organizations and is also an Honorary Fellow of the Philippine Corps of Engineers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

These honours are normally accorded only to selected visiting heads of states. He is also the recipient of 3 royal proclamations conferring him with the status of Datu and has been appointed the personal representative of several Sultans, crown Princes, Governors and Mayors in the Philippines.
